September 21, 2017

Today we had a visit from Wildlife on Wheels from The Nashville Zoo! This goes along with what we have been learning in Science and with our Reading stories. We got to see some really great animals. We learned about these animals and how we should respect them. We saw a falcon, a maccaw, an armadillo, and a snake up close. We got to see both of these beautiful birds fly across Mrs. Jones's classroom. Some of us even got to touch the snake!

We had our school pictures made on Tuesday. Make up pictures will be on October 11th.

The end of the first 9 weeks will be next Friday, September 29th. report cards will be emailed on October 13th.

Fall Break will be October 2-6.

Following Fall Break we will be introducing some changes in Spelling. We will be working on more difficult words, using the beyond level words and vocabulary words for our Friday tests. We will continue to send home the regular Spelling packets to be completed by Thursday.

Thanks to everyone in for their generosity in the Penny Wars. We raised a large cash amount to help hurricane victims and had a lot of fun in the process.

Grandparents Day

We were so excited to see so many grandparents this morning. The children were happy to spend time showing them around the school and sharing the day with them. We are so proud of the 2nd Grade boys that led us in song during the chapel program.

Our Family Tree projects look great in the hallway and the children worked so hard on their booklets and cards for their grandparents. It has been fun getting to know more about our families this week.

Next week will be Homecoming and Spirit Week. We will have the following Spirit days: Monday-Jersey/favorite team day, Wednesday-Camo day, Friday-Crazy Red and White Day. Tuesday and Thursday are Ezell jeans and t-shirt days. Make plans to attend the big football game on Friday night.

Parent Conferences are on Tuesday, September 19. If you have not signed up for a conference please contact your child's teacher.

 Eclipse Day-August 21, 2017
It was wonderful to have so many of you join us for the historic eclipse on Monday. Even though the clouds didn't cooperate with us, it was amazing! The children had learned so much about what to expect and what to look for. It was a great day!
It was also wonderful to have you back again on Tuesday night for Open House. The children worked so hard to get things ready to show off their classrooms.

Don't forget about our fundraisers. The last turn in day is TOMORROW, Friday, August 25th!! If we have 60% participation in these fundraisers we will all get an extra day off following the Labor Day holiday! Any student selling $100 will get that day off. Sell, Sell, Sell! It is a great way to support our school!

August 18

It has been another fun and exciting week in 2nd grade! This week we went to our first STEM class and kicked off our first Fundraiser.

Lots of students are already collecting emojis for selling CitiSaver books. (If you aren't sure what this means, ask your 2nd grader!)

Turning in $100 in sales of any merchandise qualifies your child for a day off from school on September, 5. If we have 60% campus participation in our fundraiser ALL  students will receive this day off! That means a longer Labor Day weekend!! AND think of the benefits for our school if everyone participates in the fundraisers!

Monday is the Big Solar Eclipse of 2017!! There will be a huge event here on our campus. You have received information about it and we have been studying and getting prepared all week. Please make plans to join us if you can. Look for information in your child's binder about the schedule of events.

Elementary Open House is on Tuesday August 22 from 5-7pm. Please plan to come and see what we have been doing for the first few weeks of school.

Continue to check and initial your child's binder each day. Remember Spelling lists can be found on RENWEB.
